The author of this article states it well. Federal employees themselves (collectively speaking) are responsible for the economic pain on the horizon.  As a group, they continue to vote in direct opposition to their own clear interests.  In the current case, Republicans have made it perfectly clear what they intend to do with federal employee pay & benefits, especially given the catastrophic revenue shortfalls and deficits  projected by the U.S. Treasury.
